What is the Omaha Lawyer Referral Service?

The Omaha Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a non profit public service established in 1962 by the Omaha Bar Association. The service was designed to assist the public in accessing lawyers in Omaha who practice in various areas of law. The Omaha Lawyer Referral Service provides referrals to callers who are located in Omaha (Douglas County) and also in the surrounding counties of Sarpy, Cass and Washington, to the Omaha lawyers listed with the LRS. If a caller is located outside Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, and Washington counties in Nebraska, the Omaha Lawyer Referral Service will provide those callers with the phone number to the LRS which services the other counties in Nebraska. The LRS can also direct callers to other legal services and agencies in Omaha and, if needed, to other LRS programs outside of Nebraska.
What is the cost?
$50 for initial CONSULTATION of up to 30 minutes.
The $50 consultation fee is paid directly to the attorney for their time and for their legal advice. There is never a charge by the Service for making the referral.
The LRS lawyers have agreed to charge a reasonable fee of $50.00 for an initial consultation, up to thirty minutes in length, except for cases involving personal injury, worker’s compensation, and Social Security Disability, for which no consultation fee is charged.
There is no guarantee by the LRS that the attorney you are referred to will take your case, and there is no obligation on your part to hire the attorney. If the LRS lawyer agrees to represent you, the lawyer will charge you for his/her services at his/her normal and customary rates. The Omaha Lawyer Referral Service is not a reduced fee or pro bono legal service. All fees are paid directly to the attorneys.
The cost of thirty minutes of your time and the $50 consultation fee in returns for being provided with knowledge and direction on how to resolve your legal issue is a tremendous value. This $50 for up to 30 minutes rate is well below the per hour fees for attorneys in private practice.

How does it work?

You may call the Omaha Lawyer Referral Service at 402-280-3603 or you may submit the request a lawyer form on this website. Callers for legal service often don’t know where to turn or who to call. This is where the LRS can help you!
The LRS staff will discuss the nature of your referral request. Our friendly and experienced staff can assist you in helping to determine if you will need to meet with a lawyer. Referrals are made in the area of law in which you may need assistance. The LRS will schedule an appointment for a thirty-minute consultation. Appointments are scheduled for Monday – Friday and you usually will meet with an attorney within 48 hours of your request. When possible, your geographic location will also be considered.
Referrals are made between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Once the appointment is made, the LRS will confirm with you the date, time, the attorney’s name, and his/her office location. The Omaha Lawyer Referral Service in Douglas County respects your privacy; all information obtained to make a referral is kept confidential.
Who are the lawyers?
A network of 130+ Local ATTORNEYS.
The lawyers who participate in the service are Omaha lawyers who are in private practice, and located throughout the metro area. On average, the number of years of practice of the LRS lawyers is 10 years or more. All LRS lawyers are required to be members in good standing to practice law in Nebraska. The lawyers who are listed with the LRS practice in a variety of areas of law.
